Spirituality

Our Understanding of Spirituality

At St Margaret’s we believe spirituality is about developing a deeper understanding of ourselves, others, the world and God.

Through discussions with staff, parents and governors, we understand spirituality to include:

  • Reflecting on where we have come from and where we are going

  • Considering the purpose and meaning of life

  • Recognising our connection with God and the wider world

  • Developing personal beliefs and values that guide how we live

We aim to nurture pupils’ spiritual development by providing opportunities to:

  • reflect and ask big questions

  • experience moments of stillness and prayer

  • engage in discussion and enquiry

  • appreciate the beauty and wonder of creation

  • develop meaningful relationships with others

Through these experiences pupils are encouraged to develop their own sense of identity and faith, enabling them to grow in wisdom, hope and compassion.

Beliefs About Ourselves and Each Other

Because we believe that every person is created in the image of God, we recognise and celebrate the uniqueness and dignity of every child and adult within our school community.

Our vision calls us to ensure that all pupils are supported to flourish regardless of their background, starting point or individual needs. We seek to nurture the whole child so that they grow academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Working closely with families, we strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment where every member of our community feels valued, respected and supported.

Beliefs About the World

We believe that the world is a vibrant and beautiful creation entrusted to our care. Our curriculum encourages pupils to explore and question the world around them with curiosity and wonder.

Through developing understanding comes a sense of responsibility. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on how they can:

  • care for the environment

  • serve others

  • live well together in community

  • make positive contributions locally, nationally and globally
